Kvam

The seating pad is made at our mill in Røros from Norwegian wool, adding a layer of warmth and softness while keeping the form of the chair or bench beneath visible.

The pattern is woven directly into the textile and reverses across its two sides, creating two related colour expressions from the same construction. Raised wool fibres give the surface additional depth and tactility, while the compact format is designed for use on dining chairs, stools and benches.

 

Kvam is designed by Kristine Five Melvær around the structural possibilities of jacquard weaving. Its geometry is shaped by what can be constructed directly through the loom rather than applied to the textile afterwards. The resulting motif brings together references to Norwegian textile tradition and Japanese pattern-making through a shared interest in repetition and structure.
