Melgaard

At our mill in Røros, we weave each wool throw from Norwegian lambswool, building the pattern directly into the textile. The jacquard construction allows colour and pattern to reverse from one side to the other, while brushing lifts the wool fibres to give the finished throw a softer, fuller surface.
We have produced wool textiles in Røros since 1940, and the same material and weaving knowledge continues to inform how each throw is made today.

 

Melgaard is designed by Bjarne Melgaard. The collaboration began in 2012, when Røros Tweed was commissioned to weave a 500 m² floor carpet for Melgaard's exhibition A House to Die In at the ICA in London. Working together at that scale established a longer collaboration and led to the development of the Melgaard textile series.
